Job Description
Overview

Performs radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures and related techniques. Administers x-radiation to produce diagnostic images for physician interpretation. Provides advanced clinical expertise and staff level leadership to the department. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • .50 FTE/20 hours per week

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists the department coordinator by providing clinical leadership; completes projects, advanced level clinical duties and regular assignments as requested.
  • Performs diagnostic radiographic, portable, c-arm and fluoroscopic procedures.
  • Corroborates patient's clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available to the radiologist and provider.
  • Prepares and positions patient for procedures, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety.
  • Selects and operates imaging equipment, image capture devices and accessories to successfully perform procedures.
  • Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.
  • Immobilizes patient as required for examination.
  • Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patient during procedures.
  • Initiates basic life support when necessary.
  • Determines radiographic technique and exposure factors.
  • Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
  • Processes images and reviews for proper identification and quality control.
  • Uses radiology information systems (including PACS), completes all required records and reports, submits images and data for physician review and interpretation.
  • Provides practical instruction for radiography students and other partners.
  • Observes universal protocol, standard precautions and appropriate patient identifiers.
  • Applies principles of patient safety during procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.
  • Utilities appropriate scripting, barriers, and patient identifiers.
  • Operates mobile radiologic equipment in operating room, emergency room, or at patient's bedside.
  • Assists radiologist in fluoroscopic and special x-ray examinations.
  • Prepares contrast media and assists in administration.

Education and Experience

Graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology
3 years experience as a registered radiographer required


Certification and Licensure

ARRT Radiography registration required
IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required if working in Illinois
WI-DSPS radiographer license required if working in Wisconsin
Approved CPR or BLS certification


Skills and Abilities
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skill
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Manufacturing software, Order processing system, and Word processing

Special Physical Demands

The employee must frequently lift and/or move patients using appropriate patient transfer equipment; gait belts, Hoyer lift, hovermat, slider boards, etc. Moving (pushing, pulling) patients in wheelchairs and patient carts. Equipment- moving (pushing and pulling) portable imaging equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


Level of Supervision

Some independent judgment is required.


Supervises

Provides clinical supervision of radiography students, radiology aides, and less senior radiologic technologists.
