Position Summary:

Under general supervision, researches, analyzes, evaluates, and administers employee benefits programs including Health, Dental and Life Insurance, Flexible Spending Accounts, Short and Long Term Disability Insurance, Employee Assistance Program, COBRA and 401(k) plans. Monitors benefit trends and stays abreast of applicable benefits legislation ensuring plan provisions are properly applied and followed. Assists in determining the impact of new policies or provisions.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Leads benefits accounting processes to include benefits vendor payments, reconciliation of billing/payments, and resolving discrepancies between vendors and Ventura Accounting.
  • Completes enrollment, status changes, and open enrollment plan transfers to ensure alignment with payroll system.
  • Assesses eligibility, provides guidance to employees regarding benefits plans, partnering with carriers and Payroll as needed. Ensures programs are being carried out appropriately based on plan descriptions and provisions.
  • Monitors changes of status by auditing employee information in benefits systems (all applicable internal and external systems).
  • Ensures necessary benefits materials are available to employees.
  • Other responsibilities as needed and assigned.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience.
  • 3+ years' experience in human resources with 2+ years in benefits administration.
  • Strong Excel skills, i.e. pivot tables, V-Lookup, etc.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • This position is hybrid with 3-days in office
  • Prior experience working with Virgin Pulse, Empyrean and LOAs 3rd party systems is preferred.
  • Experience with multi-state benefits highly desired.
  • Food manufacturing industry experience desired.
  • Experience with union benefits a plus.
  • International benefits experience is an advantage.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others, including how Payroll & Benefits work together.
  • Ability to understand and interpret documents such as benefits plan documents and provisions.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Excellent organizational skills, the ability to complete tasks in a timely manner, and the ability to work under strict time constraints.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to interact effectively with different levels of the organization and with outside benefits providers.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use HRIS systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable federal, state, and local laws pertaining to benefits administration.
  • Knowledge of insurance and benefits terminology as well as procedures surrounding claims processing.
  • Knowledge of general personnel operations with emphasis on benefits administration practices and regulations.

  • Salary Base Range of $76,700 - $97,900 for Employees Located in California*

*The "base salary range" provided above is a good faith estimate of what we expect to pay for this position. The range provided is for California-based employees as Ventura Foods is required by California State Law to post pay rates. Ventura Foods reserves the right to pay outside of the given range based on a variety of factors including but not limited to: candidate skills and experience, complexity of the job, budgetary factors, and location/geography.
